East Asia is one of the hot spots of world political and economic affairs. The rise of China as an economic, but also as a political and military power has already changed the structure of international relations. The Korean peninsula has on its south a fast developing economic and technological powerhouse. North Korea with its nuclear bomb and the looming change in leadership poses risks beyond its immediate neighborhood.
