Florian Lemmel, B.A., graduated in May of 2020 from the University of Applied Sciences Magdeburg Stendal with a degree in journalism. In the course of his studies, he focused on political journalism and spend two semesters studying abroad at Lenoir-Rhyne University in Hickory, North Carolina. His study abroad experience, as well as his interest in the field of politics, influenced his decision to write about the situation at the US-Mexican border and the Zero-Tolerance policy against migrants from the Northern Triangle in his Bachelor Thesis. As a student worker in the International Office of the University of Applied Sciences, he assisted international students in Magdeburg and conducted workshops on intercultural communication. After graduating with his Bachelor’s degree, he went on to pursue a Master’s degree in political science at the University of Vienna in October of 2020. In his Master’s degree, he is focusing on international politics and development as well as political theory. Starting in March 2022, he will have the opportunity to do an internship at the oiip and gain experience in the research area of security politics and political violence.
