Dr. Ludmila Bogdan is an Ernst Mach research fellow at the oiip, where she focuses on prison research and conducts qualitative interviews with smugglers and human traffickers. Ludmila is a sociologist trained in mixed methods and her research centers on the interplay of labor migration, human trafficking, and migration information campaigns in Europe. She has Postdoctoral Training in Sociology from Harvard University (2020) and a Ph.D. in Political Sciences from the University of Vienna (2017). Previously, she held academic positions at the Max Planck Institute, Georgetown University, and the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna. Her recent work challenges the efficiency of current anti-trafficking information campaigns and efforts. At the same time, Ludmila is conducting field research in Palermo (Italy) to understand the migration imaginaries of African youth as they navigate the immigration system and life in a new country.
