Karla Heltriegel holds a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations and International Organizations from the University of Groningen, where she developed a strong interest in global political dynamics and transnational processes. During her undergraduate studies, she spent an exchange semester at Fudan University in Shanghai, where she advanced her Mandarin language skills and expanded her knowledge of China’s political, economic, and social systems.
This experience is reflected in her particular interest in China’s political system, its global influence projection, and its role within shifting international power structures. Her academic interests focus in particular on China’s energy policy and its strategic implications for global power shifts and international economic relations, which she explores in her work at the oiip in collaboration with Thomas Eder.
