Dr. Kuyang Harriet Logo Mulukwat is a distinguished academic and practitioner specializing in International Law, Human Rights, and Democratic Governance. With extensive experience bridging theory and practice, she has significantly influenced rule of law reforms, access to justice initiatives, and transitional justice processes across conflict-affected regions. Currently a Fellow at the Rift Valley Institute and Gender Lead for the Peacebuilding Opportunities Fund 2, Dr. Kuyang continues to drive policy and research at the intersection of gender, peacebuilding, and institutional reform.Dr. Kuyang has taught International Law, International Human Rights Law, and Women and Child Law at the University of Juba, shaping the next generation of legal scholars and practitioners in South Sudan. Her research addresses critical issues including: Knowledge production and transitional justice, International Humanitarian Law and customary law, Gender dynamics in conflict and peacebuilding, Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) frameworks. She has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications, including book chapters and journal articles, with her full body of work accessible on LinkedIn and Academia.edu.
Prior to academia, Dr. Kuyang held senior roles with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) across Sudan, South Sudan, and Timor Leste, including: Rule of Law Analyst, Programme Analyst for the Rule of Law Cluster and Access to Justice Specialist. In these capacities, she designed and evaluated programs strengthening judicial systems, legal aid, and community-based justice mechanisms. Her expertise in assessing UN interventions has provided critical insights for improving humanitarian and development operations.
Policy Influence & Global Engagement -Dr. Kuyang’s thought leadership extends to high-level international forums: Fellow, Data and Displacement Project (University of Warwick), Member, Expert Working Group (Africa–China–Europe Dialogue on Arms Diversion Prevention), Panelist, LSE Conflict Research (alongside leading South Sudanese academics). Kuyang holds a PhD in Peace and Development, Master of Laws (LLM) in Democratic Governance and Rule of Law and an LLB.
